W. J. Poppelbaum Memorial Award
On the faculty from 1955-1989, Professor Poppelbaum joined the solid state research group under Professor John Bardeen in 1954 and worked on an electrolytic analog of a junction transistor. He joined the Digital Computing Laboratory the next year, and was in charge of circuit research, developing the basic circuits of the ILLIAC II. This award is intended for graduate students in computer hardware or architecture, based on academic performance and design creativity.
