    Shuang Zhao, CS associate professor, and his teams received the Best Paper Award Honorable Mentions at the prestigious SIGGRAPH 2026 Technical Papers Awards. "Sample Matching for Joint Extinction Gradient Estimation in Differentiable Volume Rendering" and "Gradient Domain Reconstruction for Monte Carlo PDE Solvers," were both selected from more than 1,120 submissions, a record in the program's 53-year history. ACM SIGGRAPH's program is the leading forum for presenting high-quality, scholarly research in computer graphics and interactive techniques.
