Research Statement
Tal August's research is at the intersection of human computer interaction and natural language processing. He studies ways to personalize language to different people and builds tools to make this language adaptation automatic. The long term goal of his research is to improve our communication with one another and with technology.

Siebel School’s faculty and graduate students will make a big showing at the 2026 ACM CHI conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems. “This year was a record year for the interactive computing research area for papers accepted,” says Tal August, CS assistant professor. Five papers received best paper or honorable mention among the 30 projects accepted, which included more than 20 papers plus workshops and posters. The conference, considered the leader for international conferences on human-computer interaction, takes place April 13-17, 2026 in Barcelona, Spain.
