Biography
Hello! I’m Joey Chan, a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). I’m advised by Prof. Yue Guo and co-advised by Prof. Jiawei Han.
I’m currently an Applied Scientist at Amazon on the JONAS team.
My research lies at the intersection of large language models, information retrieval, and AI4Science and healthcare. I’m particularly interested in developing tiered retrieval-augmented and agentic AI systems that reason over external knowledge and complex scientific data, with applications in personalized health, drug discovery, and computational biology.
