Call for Participation

Submissions are now open for the 2026 Illinois Computer Science Summer Teaching Workshop!

The virtual Illinois Computer Science Summer Teaching Workshop brings together college instructors engaged with teaching computer science to discuss best practices, challenge the status quo, propose new directions, and present surprising or preliminary results. Since it began in 2020, the workshop has been a welcoming venue with over 100 participants each year and has accepted most proposals. There is no registration or attendance fee for this free online workshop. The 2026 workshop will be held virtually on June 10th and 11th, with sessions 10–12 and 1–3 pm each day (Central Daylight Time).

We invite 300-500 word abstract submissions for 10-minute presentations with a 5-minute Q&A (15 minutes total) on work, both new and old, in all areas of CS education. While all works are welcome, this year we will be organizing talks in four sessions loosely themed around:

  • Teaching CS Theory

  • Best Practices in Teaching

  • Pathways for AI in CS Education and Teaching

  • Guided Discussions on Important Topics in Computing Education

New this summer, one of the sessions will be a Guided Discussion session. We are facilitating submissions for this new type of session as well. Guided Discussions are inspired by prior workshop's lunch discussions and the desire to capture something between a talk and a "BOF". Instead of presenting work on a topic, the goal for Guided Discussions is to build a fruitful discussion on unpacking the nuances and richness of hot topics in computing education and teaching.

People from all experience levels (i.e., educators, students, researchers, postdocs) are welcome to submit.
