How did I get interested in Computer Science?
I like the logical side of computer science, how lines of code can drive technology that can help solve real world problems. My first encounter with Computer Science was during my junior year in high school when I had opted into CS as an exploratory subject. I started learning about Computer Science on a whim while trying to get more involved in the student organizations and events that my new high school had to offer. In the process of learning, I discovered I not only liked the logical and mathematical intricacies of CS but also could consider pursuing it as my full-time career.
What social interests matter to me?
Getting girls and women equitable access to quality education and healthcare services is the most important social cause to me. Especially within the STEM fields where women were regularly prevented from being able to shatter the glass ceiling and achieve what their male counterparts do, and I envision a society with no segregation based on sex.
What is my most impactful college experience?
My most impactful college experience was meeting women in STEM through various student organizations such as Women in CS and Girls Who Code during the start of my freshman year. It was interesting to find a community of women who shared similar interests, and I enjoyed meeting people from so many different backgrounds.
These are a few of my favorite things!
Good music, good coffee, board games and hanging out with friends
Research Description
Biography
I am Arshiya Gupta, a junior studying Computer Science; also wishing to pursue a minor in statistics. I am an International Space Settlement Design Challenge (ISSDC) qualifier and am curious about researching new problems that we encounter now and then and finding viable solutions to solve them. Most of the research projects that I have undertaken previously were related to aerospace and the integration of tech in aerospace. I have just started on my CS journey and am curious to explore more. Increasing diversity and inclusion in computing and STEM-based fields is very important to me and I have been involved with several RSOs on campus which promote the same, such as Women in Computer Science (WCS), Girls Who Code (GWC), Society of Women Engineers (SWE). In the upcoming semesters, I wish to learn not just to code, but to create and make an impact in the high-tech world while also accomplishing my goal of empowering girls.
