How did I get interested in Computer Science?
My interest in Computer Science began in high school when I excelled in Computer Science courses, earning a subject award for exceptional performance. This initial spark grew during my internships at JSW Steel, where I developed a Python-based data visualization tool and optimized Power BI dashboards, and at Hi-Tech Pipelines, where I implemented an ERP system. Additionally, my involvement with the Technology Council at school, where I participated in several hackathons, further solidified my desire to pursue a career in this dynamic field. These experiences have deepened my passion for solving real-world problems through technology.

What social interests matter to me?
Social equity, education, and technology for social good are central to my values and interests. My work with Teach For India, where I developed customized lesson plans and led data-driven projects to measure student progress, underscores my dedication to bridging educational gaps and making quality education accessible to all. I am passionate about empowering underrepresented communities, as demonstrated by my involvement in a women's empowerment project that focused on financial independence and healthcare access. Additionally, I am deeply interested in leveraging technology to address societal challenges, particularly in areas like accessibility, digital inclusion, and sustainable development. These social interests drive my commitment to using Computer Science to create impactful solutions that benefit our society.

What is my most impactful college experience?
My most impactful experience in college has been moving away from my family and finding a new community of friends who quickly became like family. The Welcome Week events played a pivotal role by making me feel at home, providing a supportive environment where I could connect with others, and building lasting relationships. This experience has been fundamental in shaping my college journey and giving me a sense of belonging here at UIUC.

Biography
My name is Devanshi Sawhney, and I am a Sophomore at UIUC. I am a Computer Science major and I plan on minoring in Economics. Originally from Delhi, India, my interest in Computer Science was sparked in high school, where I excelled in the subject and participated in several hackathons. I have worked on several impactful projects during my internships, including developing data visualization tools and optimizing digital systems. In the future, I wish to use my Computer Science knowledge to create a positive impact.
