Project Title
How did I get interested in Computer Science?
I developed an interest in computer science after taking a summer class during my freshman year of high school. Learning about how AI systems were being used to make decisions and assist people sparked my curiosity about the field and motivated me to explore it further. I became eager to understand how these technologies work, how they can be improved, and how they can be utilized to solve real-world problems.
What social interests matter to me?
As a first-generation Latina student, I’m excited about the potential of AI to make a positive impact. I’m especially interested in how it can help create a fairer and more efficient U.S. justice system, improve educational opportunities through personalized learning, and address homelessness by better managing resources and interventions. I’m eager to use AI to drive real change in these crucial areas and also explore other areas along the way!
What is my most impactful college experience?
The most impactful college experience I've had so far has been attending the Society of Hispanic Engineers Admitted Student visitation during my senior year of high school. After meeting other students in CS with a similar background as me, I was able to learn more about the welcoming community at UIUC. During this weekend, I connected with students and professors who shared their experiences and insights into the Computer Science program, which solidified my decision to attend UIUC.
These are a few of my favorite things!
I enjoy baking, playing badminton, Karol G's music, chocolate croissants, and matcha.
