Project Title

How did I get interested in Computer Science?
My interest in computer science began in middle school when I first started creating simple games with Scratch. This early experience, combined with my love for mathematics, led me to explore programming further in high school.

What social interests matter to me?

Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois for its amazing computer science program, the variety of classes offered across different areas, and the on-campus ice rink. Being close to home and within driving distance was also a big plus.

What are your passions outside of computing?
Outside of computing, I’m passionate about figure skating, both as a skater and coach. I also run SKATE for Girls, a program that combines figure skating with STEM learning for middle schoolers. I’m really into filmmaking and video editing, and I’m minoring in Critical Film Production to keep exploring that creative side.

What has been one of your favorite experiences at Illinois that you would like to share with prospective students? (For Continuing UIUC Students)
One of my favorite experiences has been coaching at the UI Ice Arena. It has helped me stay connected to something I love, figure skating, while also meeting new people. It has made campus feel a lot more like home.

What has been one of your favorite experiences as a CS STAR? (For Returning CS STARS)
One of my favorite experiences as a CS STAR has been getting to work with another STAR in my research lab. We are on the same project, so it has been really great to collaborate and connect. I have also really enjoyed getting to know the rest of my lab group. It has made the experience even more fun and supportive.

What is my most impactful college experience?

These are a few of my favorite things!
Crafting, video editing, concerts

Research Description

Biography
I'm a sophomore majoring in Computer Science from Wilmette, IL. My passion for mathematics began in high school, where I was an active member of the math team and a dedicated tutor at Mathnasium. My interest in coding grew through my involvement with Girls Who Code and my role as a Teaching Assistant in programming courses at Northwestern’s Center for Talent Development. I am also the founder of SKATE (Solving Kinesthetically and Transforming Education), a nonprofit that merges figure skating with mathematics, empowering young girls to succeed in STEM. I look forward to continuing this work at UIUC.
