How did I get interested in Computer Science?
I was interested in math and science since middle school. I started to become interested in Computer Science after taking a CS course during my Freshman year of high school. In the class I worked on coding projects using Python. Since then, I took other coding classes and my interesting in Computer Science grew.
What social interests matter to me?
Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois because of the opportunities offered for CS students, especially in research. There is also a supportive CS community at UIUC that encourages students to work together even outside of coursework.
What are your passions outside of computing?
I am interested in making healthcare more accessible and affordable across the world and ensuring that everyone can quickly access important medical procedures.
What has been one of your favorite experiences at Illinois that you would like to share with prospective students? (For Continuing UIUC Students)
One of my favorite experiences at UIUC has been Quad Day and learning about the different student organizations at UIUC.
What has been one of your favorite experiences as a CS STAR? (For Returning CS STARS)
One of my favorite experiences as a CS STAR has been researching attention mechanisms with help from my research group. I was unfamiliar with this before CS STARS, but I felt supported in my research.

Pia Robinson is studying Computer Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is from Washington Court House, OH, and comes from a family of four. She would like to learn about AI systems and machine learning.
