How did I get interested in Computer Science?
My interest in computer science began with AP CS where I noticed that I enjoyed solving programming problems. I really liked the fact that every line in programming had a reason behind it and efficiency was encouraged. From there, as I delved deeper, I found projects and areas that excited me and was also drawn to the idea of creating something that could impact a great deal of people.

What social interests matter to me?

Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois because it’s really strong in research and has a lot of hands-on projects, which are both things I wanted to try in undergrad. The professors are highly knowledgeable, and there’s so much to explore here.

What are your passions outside of computing?
Dancing, Reading, Playing Piano

What has been one of your favorite experiences at Illinois that you would like to share with prospective students? (For Continuing UIUC Students)

What has been one of your favorite experiences as a CS STAR? (For Returning CS STARS)

What is my most impactful college experience?

These are a few of my favorite things!
I love getting lost in stories, snacking on dark chocolate, collecting random facts regardless of their use, and meeting people over coffee.

Biography
Hi! I’m Disha Sanganeriya, a freshman studying Computer Science with a strong interest in exploring AI, machine learning, and theoretical CS. I’m also passionate about incorporating accessibility into these areas to make technology more inclusive. I got into computer science after a high school course sparked my curiosity in logic and problem-solving. Since then, I’ve built projects like Omni, a multilingual programming platform designed to break language barriers in coding education, and conducted research on channel coding and computational geometry at the Wolfram Summer Research Program. Outside of CS, I enjoy reading books, taking jazz dance lessons, trying new cuisines, and spending time with friends and family.
