How did I get interested in Computer Science?
My passion for Computer Science began in high school, where programming and building from the ground up sparked my curiosity. I was drawn to the excitement of turning ideas into working solutions and tackling complex challenges, which inspired me to dive deeper into the field’s endless opportunities.

What social interests matter to me?

Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois because it offers the best of everything I was looking for—an in-state school with a top CS program, a wide range of extracurriculars, and countless opportunities that come with being at a large university. But what really makes UIUC special to me are the genuine connections I’ve made here. The community is supportive, and Chambana has all the charm of a classic college town, making it an amazing place to live and learn.

What are your passions outside of computing?
Mentorship, community involvement, and dance

What has been one of your favorite experiences at Illinois that you would like to share with prospective students? (For Continuing UIUC Students)
Attending the Women in Computer Science (WCS) Chicago Retreat was one of my most meaningful experiences. It helped me build lasting bonds with fellow committee members and connect with other driven, inspiring women in CS—many of whom have become close friends. From company visits to learning how to play poker, the retreat was both educational and fun. Most importantly, it strengthened my passion for creating inclusive, supportive environments in tech.

Biography
Caroline Feng is a sophomore majoring in Statistics and Computer Science at UIUC and has research interests in machine learning and AI. She is from the suburbs of Chicago and has been dancing for 15 years, primarily doing ballet, tap, and now hip hop at UIUC. In high school, she developed a passion for programming and has since become particularly interested in pursuing data science. In her free time, Caroline enjoys spending time with her friends and is always down for matcha.
