Project Title

How did I get interested in Computer Science?
I became interested in Computer Science through an experience I had as President of Chicago Teen Mentors, an online, no-cost tutoring program that has impacted over 4,000 Chicago Public Schools students. Because of the program’s large population and demand, I needed to develop ways to optimize tedious back-end technical processes. By using Python scripting to automate a system that pairs students with tutors based on needs and scheduling availability, I’ve been able to manage a much higher number of students and ensure that children in CPS are able to supplement their education with free opportunities to grow. Today, I am interested in the intersection between Computer Science and benefiting the world around me through the development of productive and innovative technologies.

What social interests matter to me?

Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois for countless reasons, but mainly how welcomed I felt by faculty and fellow students upon being admitted. I also appreciate its proximity to home, large student body, and opportunities within the CS department and beyond.

What are your passions outside of computing?
Equitable access to quality education, supporting youth athletes, and learning about different cultures through food and music!

What is my most impactful college experience?

These are a few of my favorite things!
Traveling, exploring different coffee shops, doing workout classes, going to festivals and concerts, and cooking!

Biography
I'm a current freshman majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Bioengineering. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and attended the largest high school in the state! I've been a competitive swimmer for the past 12 years and plan on swimming club at UIUC as well as being a swim coach at a local YMCA. Outside of the pool, I enjoy trying out new foods and exploring new places in and out of my city. I am super excited to become a part of Illinois' CS program and pursue my passions in computing through research and collaboration!
