How did I get interested in Computer Science?
I discovered my passion for computer science through my internship at Lawrence Berkeley Lab coding network flow visualizations. Through collaborative problem-solving and the visual storytelling process, I discovered I enjoyed the logical puzzle that computer science presents and the creative challenge of clearly communicating the message behind data. I love that computer science combines creativity and logic.
What social interests matter to me?
Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois for my major, CS + Econ. I love that I have the opportunity to study a blended interdisciplinary major that allows me to pursue all my interests.
What are your passions outside of computing?
I am passionate about art and design and the outdoors!
What has been one of your favorite experiences at Illinois that you would like to share with prospective students? (For Continuing UIUC Students)
One of my favorite experiences at Illinois was Women in Engineering orientation. It was a great opportunity to meet many other friends and classmates before freshman year even began.
What has been one of your favorite experiences as a CS STAR? (For Returning CS STARS)
One of my favorite experiences as a CS STAR was trick or research because we got to present our research posters in a fun and stress-free environment.
What is my most impactful college experience?

Walking and biking with family, board games, photography, and chatting with friends over meals!

Hello I'm Janine! I'm studying Computer Science and Economics at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and I'm interested in human-computer interaction and UX design fields. Previously, I have worked on projects in data visualization, machine learning, and user experience design.
