How did I get interested in Computer Science?
I was drawn to CS early on by the sheer range of problems it could solve. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities and showed me that with the right tools, you could make a real difference. The more I've learned, the more I've come to see just how vast and exciting the field really is.
What social interests matter to me?
Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois because of its strong CS program and the exciting research happening across the university. The beautiful campus made it more inviting and once I arrived, I knew I'd made the right choice.
What are your passions outside of computing?
Outside of computing, I'm passionate about trying to make as much of an impact as I can. I'm grateful to have had opportunities to explore my interests and expand my horizons, and I want to do what I can to help others have that too. I'm also passionate about music and cooking. There's something about both that lets me be creative in a completely different way!
What has been one of your favorite experiences at Illinois that you would like to share with prospective students? (For Continuing UIUC Students)
One of my favorite things about Illinois has been discovering a community of people who share so many of the same interests and are driven to use what they're learning to make a real impact. Whether in classes, clubs, or programs, I've met people who genuinely inspire me.
What has been one of your favorite experiences as a CS STAR? (For Returning CS STARS)
What is my most impactful college experience?
These are a few of my favorite things!
Travelling, spending time with my family, iced coffee, and my dog, Chester!!

Biography
Hi, I'm Elizabeth! I'm a sophomore studying Computer Science with a deep interest in AI and its real-world applications. I've published research on using generative AI to make textbooks accessible to visually impaired students, and I'm currently building a mobile app based on those findings. I'm passionate about using technology to make a meaningful difference, whether in accessibility, education, or medicine. Outside of CS, I love cooking, music, travelling, and spending time with my family!
