Project Title

How did I get interested in Computer Science?
My interest in Computer Science began when at the age of 8, I saw a man confidently navigating a crowded subway using a voice-controlled wheelchair. I was amazed by how technology could improve someone's life, which inspired me to start learning programming. As I explored computer science, I built apps that strengthened my UI/UX design skills, created games, and learned programming languages such as Python. I also used data visualization tools to analyze real-world problems and explore AI-driven solutions.

What social interests matter to me?

Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois because of its strong CS program and the incredible range of opportunities it offers. I was drawn to the balance between challenging academics and a fun, welcoming campus environment. I love that Illinois has a competitive yet collaborative culture where students push each other to grow while building meaningful connections with peers and mentors. I’m excited to explore new areas of computer science, get involved on campus, and learn from the diverse community around me..

What are your passions outside of computing?
Outside of computing, I enjoy traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures. One of the ways I connect with different cultures is through food—I love cooking and trying new cuisines. I also enjoy giving back to my community by volunteering. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, doing crafts, thrifting and exploring new creative hobbies.

Biography
Hi! I'm Teesta Jha, an incoming freshman Computer Science student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I was born and raised in India, where I developed an appreciation for the diverse communities, cultures, and perspectives that shape the world around us. This inspired my interest in using technology, particularly AI, to create solutions that address real-world needs and make a positive impact. I am excited to continue exploring the intersection of computer science and social innovation through research, collaboration, and new experiences at UIUC.
