Project Title

How did I get interested in Computer Science?
Growing up, I've always been around tech. I initially became interested in Computer Science because I grew up watching a lot of people speedrun video games, specifically Super Mario 64. Seeing how people manipulated code to reach faster times made me interested in how code works and how you can use it to solve complex problems creatively. My first coding class was my senior year of high school where I rebuilt the Pokemon battle system in Python. Since then, I’ve loved computer science!

What social interests matter to me?

Why did you choose Illinois?
I chose Illinois because it was the perfect school for me! Illinois has a strong computer science program and it is close to home. I love that Illinois is a top engineering school while also being a Big 10 school, allowing me to have a good balance of academics and fun.

What are your passions outside of computing?
Outside of computing, I am passionate about art and culture! I love painting, baking, fashion, and crocheting. I’ve recently started to experiment with digital art tools like Procreate and Adobe photoshop. I also enjoy trying different cultural dishes as well as celebrating my own Filipino heritage through dance.

What has been one of your favorite experiences at Illinois that you would like to share with prospective students? (For Continuing UIUC Students)
One of my favorite experiences was seeing the Illini basketball team make it to the final four last spring. Seeing all of campus unite and celebrate the team by climbing on Alma was one of the moments that I’ll never forget.

What has been one of your favorite experiences as a CS STAR? (For Returning CS STARS)

What is my most impactful college experience?

These are a few of my favorite things!
I love weightlifting, playing sports, cooking, making art, video games, and collecting Smiskis!

Biography
Hi! I’m Megan, a junior studying Computer Science with a minor in Information Sciences from Bolingbrook, Illinois, I’m active in the Philippine Student Association and have been a student teacher for CS SAIL. I’m passionate about using human-centered design to create accessible products that make a positive impact. In my free time, I love playing sports and trying new baking recipes.
