CS student team wins the ICPC North American Championship

Ippatsu, a team from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, participated in the International Collegiate Programming Competition (ICPC)North American Championship in Orlando, FL, on May 25. There were 52 teams from Canada and the United States at the event. Teams were allowed to bring one twenty-five-page team reference document with them to the competition as their sole technical resource. Ippatsu consists of Dilhan Salgado, a graduate student in mathematics; Yuuki Sawanoi, an undergraduate in computer science and mathematics; and Zhikun Wang, an MS in computer science; and is coached by CS Professor Mattox Beckman. Illinois will advance to the World Finals, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, starting August 31.

On May 26th, Ippatsu, a team from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, participated in the International Collegiate Programming Competition (ICPC)North American Championship in Orlando, FL. There were 52 teams from Canada and the United States at the event. Teams were allowed to bring one twenty-five-page team reference document with them to the competition as their sole technical resource.

The 2024 ICPC North America regional contests were organized into eleven regional contests. The 52 teams in Orlando were the highest-placing teams from these regional-level contests and advanced to the 2025 ICPC North America Championship. Ippatsu was recognized as the Central Division champions. At the North American contest, Ippatsu finished in first place, scoring first on three problems and solving 12 of the group of 13 problems to bring home the gold.

The Ippatsu team consists of Dilhan Salgado, a graduate student in mathematics; Yuuki Sawanoi, an undergraduate in computer science and mathematics; and Zhikun Wang, an MS in computer science; and is coached by CS Professor Mattox Beckman. Illinois will advance to the World Finals, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, starting August 31.
