Three projects led by Illinois CS faculty have been chosen to receive funding.

The C3.ai Digital Transformation Institute (C3.ai DTI) has awarded $5.4 million to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) research in order to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement was made this morning by C3.ai DTI.
C3.ai DTI, jointly managed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of California, Berkeley, and in partnership with Microsoft Corp., invited researchers in March to take on the challenge of abating COVID-19 and advancing AI-based science and technologies for mitigating future pandemics. Illinois CS professor Tandy Warnow is co-chief scientist for C3.ai DTI.
Twenty-six projects will receive funding for research that strives toward addressing COVID-19 across multiple disciplines including medicine, urban planning, public policy, and computer science, and its impact on racial, economic, and healthcare disparities. In addition, research teams will have access to advanced computing and data resources provided by C3.ai DTI consortium members and partners, including resources from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).
