The Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) has named Illinois Grainger College of Engineering Siebel School of Computing and Data Science professor Dilek Hakkani-Tür a 2024 ACL Fellow. Hakkani-Tür, was one of nine scholars chosen for the award. The ACL nominating committee noted her“significant contributions to Conversational Dialogue Modeling, Spoken Language Understanding, and Machine Learning Methods for Dialogue Systems.’”
“I was very surprised, as I wasn’t expecting the good news, and I also was super happy!’' Hakkani-Tür said. “I have been working in this area for a long time, since my PhD. My employer changed several times, but my passion and enthusiasm on the topic are intact.”
The Fellows program recognizes ACL members whose contributions to the field have been most extraordinary in scientific and technical excellence, service to the association and the community, and/or educational or outreach activities that have a broader impact. To be named a Fellow, a candidate must have been a member of the ACL for the past three consecutive years and be nominated by a current ACL member.
