CS professor Heng Ji has been named a 2025 ACL Fellow for "significant contributions to information extraction, multimodal and multilingual knowledge extraction and AI for science.”
Ji is also an Amazon Scholar and the founding director of Amazon-Illinois Center on AI for Interactive Conversational Experiences (AICE).
She cited her PhD advisor, Ralph Grishman, New York University CS professor, for his support.
“His guidance has shaped my curiosity and commitment to exploring these areas in the pursuit of truth,” Ji said. “This honor also carries the love and guidance of the countless people who have lifted me up, my students, mentors, friends, and family.”
Only 11 ACL Fellows were named for the prestigious fellowship in 2025. Established in 2011, the program recognizes ACL members whose contributions to the field have been “most extraordinary in terms of scientific and technical excellence, service to the association and the community and/or educational or outreach activities with broader impact.”
