CS graduate student Brett Jones was named a recipient of an Intel PhD Fellowship for 2013-2014.
These fellowships are awarded to outstanding graduate students conducting research in computer science, engineering, social science, and other fields relating to high-tech computing technologies. The award includes a $24,000 stipend, a travel award and tuition. Recipients also work with an Intel technical mentor who is an established leader in the field. Only 15 of these fellowships were awarded this year.
Jones is working with CS Professors David Forsyth and Associate Professor Brian Bailey. He conducts research at the intersection of computer vision, human computer interaction and computer graphics. His most recent project, IllumiRoom, was created in collaboration with Microsoft Research.
"I'm really honored to be selected for the Intel fellowship,” said Jones. “I look forward to working with my Intel mentor and colleagues at Illinois to create the interactive experiences of the future. We hope to make your world more magical, taking the virtual world outside of a box sitting on your desk, and bring the experience into your physical environment.”
ECE graduate student Aditya Agarwal also received an Intel PhD Fellowship.
