Biography
My first experience with any form of academic research or project was my involvement with a Student Organization at the University called "Insper Data"
(https://linktr.ee/insperdata). I was an active participant in this organization throughout my fourth and fifth semesters (Aug. 2022 - June 2023), when I developed two data science and machine learning-related projects. These projects were presented to the Insper community and examined in a series of seminars that resulted in two papers. I learned a lot during these projects, mainly from the mistakes made during their development.
Later, this knowledge proved useful when I became involved in a funded undergraduate research project, which I am currently developing, in the field of computer graphics coupled with machine learning, more specifically, implicit 3D scene representations using neural networks, more commonly known as neural radiance fields. I am greatly interested in both computer graphics and machine learning, and I look very much forward to continuing research in either or both of these fields of study. I have also explored some biological applications of mathematics and machine learning. During the holidays between my fifth and sixth semesters (July 30th- August 5t), I enrolled in the 26th Brazilian School of Probability, an event that hosted several international researchers to delve into their mathematical approaches, mostly probabilistic, for modeling the human brain and its neuronal spike trains. It was a highly enriching
experience in which I learned about many interesting research projects and I also had the opportunity to engage with foreign scholars. This spiked my old interest for computer-brain interfaces, and this semester I am also developing a classifier to interpret motion imagery EEG data which I have found highly compelling. At the moment, I am set to participate during my next vacation in a two-month research-focused internship at A.C. Camargo (Dec. 2023 - Jan. 2024), one of Brazil's largest and most-renown cancer research institutions (https://accamargo.org.br/. At the A.C. Camargo Cancer Center I will be working on applications of machine learning and computer vision for oncological research and imagery. All of these fields are of great interest for me, and I am eager to develop and to contribute, if possible, to the work being done in any of them during the 2024 Illinois University summer research program.
