Biography & Research Abstract
Abstract:
Fabricated online social network profiles are becoming increasingly sophisticated and thus harder to detect by real human users. These profiles have begun using more complex generative algorithms for both text and image content to fool real users into phishing schemes. To determine how well users can identify fabricated profiles, we conduct user studies with offline social profiles created using generative text and image algorithms. Users are asked to rank each profile’s credibility, and we investigate their ability to detect fake accounts comparing inter-field and intra-field profile inconsistencies.
Bio:
My name is Olivia Figueira and I'm a Computer Science and Engineering major with minors in Mathematics and Economics at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California, graduating in 2021. When it comes to research, I'm interested in the fields of security and privacy, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, and humanitarian computing. I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area, California, and when I’m not at school or working on research, you can typically find me learning how to play a new instrument, singing, trying out new boba shops, or hanging out at the beach.
