    Siebel School is bringing significant NLP and AI expertise to the 2026 Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing (EMNLP). Over 30 graduate students and 30 faculty are a part of the accepted 30 main conference papers, 25-plus COLM 2026 papers, and 20-plus findings papers. EMNLP is an international academic conference on natural language processing and AI, hosted by the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) SIGDAT, a special interest group for linguistic data and corpus-based approaches to natural language processing.

    Siebel School alumni, Xiao Ma ('12, Ph.D., Computer Science) and Chi Wang ('14, Ph.D., Computer Science) co-authored the book "Multi-Agent AI Engineering" which offers valuable insights into designing, building and managing AI systems that collaborate as coordinated teams. At Illinois, Ma was advised by Yuanyuan Zhou, former Illinois CS professor and current CS professor at UC San Diego, and Wang by Jiawei Han, CS professor and Michael Aiken Chair. The book can be pre-ordered now and will be available on October 10.

    CS Professor Jiawei Han shared that the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science in The Grainger College of Engineering alumni received prominent awards at KDD 2025.
     
    Carl J. Yang ('20 Ph.D. Computer Science) received the 2025 ACM SIGKDD Rising Star Award based on Yang's body of work in the first five years after the Ph.D.
     
    Yu Zhang  ('19 M.S., '24 Ph.D. Computer Science) received the 2025 ACM SIGKDD Dissertation Award, Runner-Up.
     
    Jun Wu ('24 Ph.D. Computer Science) received the 2025 ACM SIGKDD Dissertation Award, Honorable Mention.

    CS alumnus Yu Meng, mentored by Jiawie Han, received the ACM SIGKDD 2024 Dissertation Award at KDD2024, for his Ph.D. thesis, "Efficient and Effective Learning of Text Representations." Meng is an assistant professor at the University of Virginia School of Engineering & Applied Science.
