Daniel S. Katz, CS research professor and NCSA chief scientist, moderated the Research Software Alliance (ReSA) and CHORUS Forum which explored embedding research software in scholarly publishing. Katz underscored that "research software has become a foundational component of modern research, and improving its discoverability, citation, preservation and reproducibility requires coordinated action across the research ecosystem." The forum brought together publishers, funders, infrastructure providers, software researchers, engineers, and open science leaders to discuss how research software can be more effectively integrated into scholarly publishing. 

CS professor Daniel Katz has been reelected to the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors for a second three-year term, from 2025 to 2027. 

Illinois computer science professor Daniel S. Katz won the 2024 US-RSE Community Award for Impact, recognizing outstanding contributions to the Research Software Engineer community.
