Official Description
Subject offerings of new and developing areas of knowledge in computer science intended to augment the existing curriculum. See Class Schedule or departmental course information for topics and prerequisites. Course Information: 1 to 4 undergraduate hours. 1 to 4 graduate hours. May be repeated in the same or separate terms if topics vary.
Section Description
AI Applications in Education
This course will cover the application of AI techniques to the many challenges of supporting human learning. Drawing from a variety of learning contexts and AI approaches, topics will include cognitive modeling, learner modeling, intelligent tutoring, adaptive educational systems, narrative-based learning environments, and educational games. The course will also include a basic introduction to the learning sciences that will provide a foundation for the effective design and evaluation of intelligent learning environments. Coursework will involve using existing AI tools for prototype development, development of computational models of assessment and feedback, and completion of a course project of the students own design. Suggested prerequisites: AI or Machine Learning (CS 225, CS 440 and/or 446).
